WHAT IS PSI?
The Student Research Project, developed by the Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology, was modelled on UROP – the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme, a programme found at many highly ranked universities and research centres around the world, whose aim is for students to gain experience in the field of research and to inspire them to pursue science and develop the skills it requires.
The aim of the programme is to pair Bachelor's and Master's students with mentors with whom they will work on research projects, giving them motivation to continue in science and to develop their knowledge, as well as valuable experience and a reference. So far we have successfully completed three cycles of PSI: PSI 2021, PSI 2022 and PSI 2023.
The programme is completely free of charge, and our mentors are volunteers.
PROJECTS
HERE you can find the list of projects and the mentors in charge of them, as well as the prior knowledge required and the skills you will acquire by working on the project. In total, nine mentors have offered thirteen projects. Our mentors focus on fields such as physics, computer science and mechanical engineering, robotics and related fields.
APPLICATION AND SELECTION
The project is intended for first- and second-cycle (and integrated) students at faculties of natural sciences and engineering at universities in BiH. PSI mentors work in fields such as physics, computer science and mechanical engineering, but applications are not necessarily limited to students of these fields.
Apply by filling in the GOOGLE FORM – the application deadline is 10.5.2024. When applying, you will need to upload your CV and transcript of grades. You can find tips on how to write a good CV HERE, and for templates and editing we recommend OVERLEAF. In addition, it is important for us to know what motivates you to apply for this project, so please submit with your application a motivation letter of no more than one A4 page, containing additional information about yourself, your work and your motivation for scientific work.
Each mentor will select candidates for their own project separately.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Your first task is to write a good CV and motivation letter, which will be the decisive criteria for mentors when selecting candidates. The selection process may also include an interview with the mentor, and selected candidates are expected to carry out project tasks thoroughly and conscientiously.
Meetings with the mentor are planned to take place every two weeks. Project participants are also expected to attend social gatherings and meetings at which progress on the project is presented.
Candidates are required to attend and actively participate in the final online session, where you will present your work to ANNT members and other PSI participants. You do not need to worry about the schedule of project tasks, as it will in any case be adapted to your university commitments, which you will agree on with your mentors.
Experience of working with BiH researchers, broadening your knowledge and skills, a certificate of participation in the project and a letter of recommendation from your mentor are the outcomes of an internship with ANNT.
