We bring you the career stories of ANNT members to give you insight into the wide range of possible career paths and broaden your vision of STEM professions.
The first story comes from Qatar, and it is told by Harun Muhić:
"I am currently employed at Infobip as a Sales Engineer, a position more commonly known in Bosnia as technical consultant. In reality, this position is a combination of several positions in one. I spend most of my working time on tasks related to project management, studying web services (APIs) and platforms used for data management in companies, and finding opportunities to implement some of the SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) products that Infobip offers. After a year and a half of working at Infobip, I was given the opportunity to relocate and work in Qatar, where I currently live.
The key qualities for my job are problem-solving ability, finding multiple ways to implement a particular project, presentation skills, sales skills... If a person has these skills, their career can go in several directions should they decide to change careers. The easiest switch would be to project management (Project Manager), then product management (Product Owner/Scrum Master), customer support (Customer Support), programming (Software Developer), etc. There is currently a large increase in the number of companies offering SaaS products, so there is demand for these positions, as well as opportunities to relocate to countries around the world to work in them.
I finished Gimnazija Obala in Sarajevo, after which I enrolled at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Sarajevo. I completed the first and second cycles of study in the Department of Telecommunications. When choosing my studies, I was guided by the idea of enrolling at a faculty after which I would have no problem finding a job, which turned out to be spot on. Anyone who graduates from ETF has a good foundation in programming and a wide choice of companies in BiH and abroad where they can find employment. A good number of students find their first job during the first cycle, and almost all of them by the time they complete the second cycle of study. Salaries are exceptionally high by BiH standards, and many of my colleagues have gone to EU countries where they are doing PhDs at well-known universities or working for IT companies. You certainly won't regret choosing ETF; it's just important to be persistent!"
